North Pike beats Wesson

SUMMIT – The Wesson Cobras fell to the North Pike Jaguars 5-1 Monday night.
The Cobras, coached by Seth Lofton, will return to action Friday night when they host the opening round of the Class 3A baseball playoffs. Wesson will play the No. 4 seed from Region 8-3A. Game time and opponent has not been determined.
The Jaguars, coached by George Lott, will host the No. 3 seed from Region 5-4A. Game time and opponent has not been determined.

The Jaguars quickly jumped on the Cobras in the first two innings to claim a 2-0 lead.
After three scoreless innings, Wesson managed to get its offense going in the top of the fourth and plated one run to cut into North Pike’s lead at 2-1.
The Jaguars would put the game away in the sixth inning after scoring three runs to extend the lead to 5-1. They held on for the win.
North Pike used a five-man rotation on the mound. Ben Cooney was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts and no walks. Jacob Gill (2K, 2BB), Brantley Hughes (2K, 1BB), Dalton Reed (4K, 0BB) and Cade Killingsworth (1K, 0BB) all saw action in relief.
Peyton Burns suffered the setback on the rubber for Wesson with four strikeouts and six walks. Alex Mooney (1K, 1BB) pitched one inning in relief.
Jeremy Smith paced the Cobras with a double and a single. Max Daughdrill provided two singles. Reid Crow had a single.
Ben Coney directed the Jaguars with a double. Hitting safely were Jacob Gill, Matthew Phillips, Brantley Hughes, Cade Killingsworth, Connor Travis and Dalton Reed.
