Pearl River sweeps Wolfpack

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Wildcats swept a pair of conference games from the Co-Lin Wolfpack. The Wolfpack lost a heart breaker in game one 5-4 in game one and took the nightcap 7-4 Tuesday night.
The Wolfpack (9-26) host the Holmes Bulldogs on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Follow live stats on Twitter at colinathletics.
Pearl River 5, Co-Lin 4
Co-Lin lit up the scoreboard first in game one after Champ Davison made it home on a double steal.
The Wildcats tied the game at one-all on a sacrifice fly by Peyton Lee that scored Zachary Clark who tripled to lead off the inning.
Clark doubled in the third inning scoring one run that gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth, Co-Lin regained the lead at 3-2. Justin Oliver led off the inning with a single. Jackson Twitty followed with a walk. J.D. Evans sacrificed to advance the runners to second and third. Kewaun May reached base on an error and scored Oliver to tie the game at 2-all. Davison ripped a single that scored Twitty and gave the Wolfpack a 3-2 lead.
Co-Lin increased their lead to 4-2 in the top of the seventh. May doubled and advanced to third on Austin Irby’s sacrifice. Davison reached on a fielder’s choice that scored May and gave the Wolves a 4-2 lead.
Pearl River tied the game in the bottom half of the frame after two runs crossed the plate on a ground out by Justin Denmary and an RBI single by Lee.
In the bottom of the ninth, with the bases loaded, Lucas Scott reached base on a fielder’s choice scoring Noah Nicaud in walk-off fashion.
Tyler McLeod and Champ Davison (2 RBIs) collected two singles each. May doubled for an RBI. Hitting safely were Irby, Oliver, Mordecai, and Evans.
Graham Hackbarth led the Wildcats with a double and a pair of singles. Clark doubled and singled. Turner and Hankins had a pair of singles. Lee added support with a single for two RBIs.
Tanner Jones suffered the loss for the Wolves allowing one earned run on two hits and walking one. Starter Austin Douglas gave up four earned runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking one in seven innings of work. Ryan Cullop pitched the final .1 innings.
Billy Cox got the win for Pearl River pitching just a 0.1 scoreless inning Starter John Carter Sanner allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits, struck out four and walked one in seven innings of work. Also seeing action on the mound was Drake Nightengale who allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one in 1.2 innings.
Pearl River 7, Co-Lin 4
There was little action early in game two of the doubleheader. Pearl River grabbed a run in the bottom of the first inning off an infield single.
Co-Lin tied the game at 1-all in the top of the fourth. J.D. Evans drove in Tyler McLeod with a single to center field.
In the sixth inning with two outs, Co-Lin’s Reed Taylor reached base after an infield error from the Wildcats. The next four Wolfpack batters drew walks allowing two runs to score as the Wolfpack took a 3-1 lead.
The Wildcat’s offense exploded in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pearl River plated six runs off six hits. The late game rally gave the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.
Co-Lin tried to rally in the top of the seventh, but managed only one run off a RBI single from Twitty.
Evans finished the game with a pair of singles for one RBI. May, Oliver, Davison, Mordecai, McLeod, and Twitty added support with a single apiece. Irby, Davison, Twitty, and Evans all posted an RBI apiece.
Peyton Lee led the Wildcats with a pair of singles for an RBI. Gage Teer doubled and singled for an RBI. Noah Nicaud added a pair of singles. Zachary Clark, Lucas Scott, Jonathon Turner, Chandler Ray added support with a single each.
Tanner Jones suffered the loss for Co-Lin allowing two earned runs on one hit and walking one in .2 innings. Starter Cole Langdon gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits, struck out five and walked two in 5 innings of work. Ryan Cullop gave up two earned runs on two hits. Also seeing action was Austin Odom who allowed one hit and struck out one in .1 inning.
Picking up the win for Pearl River was Justin Demary. He allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out two in 1.1 innings. Starter Zachary Boone gave up one earned run, struck out two and walked two in four innings. Cody Lee (2 runs, 1K, 2 BB, 1.2 innings) and Billy Cox (3 BB) also made appearances for Pearl River.
