Lady Panthers take first game

ELLISVILLE – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers beat South Jones 10-2 in the opening round of the Class 5A State fastpitch softball playoffs Tuesday night.

“I am proud of the girls for coming on the road and getting a win. We were able to adjust at the plate after the first inning and put together some runs,” said BHS coach Mandy Vinson. “I thought defensively we played a good game tonight. We will get back to practice tomorrow and work hard for Thursday.”

The Lady Panthers (20-6, 2-0) will return to action Thursday when they host the Lady Braves for the second game of the series starting at 5:30 p.m.

Brookhaven 10, South Jones 2 

The Lady Panthers had 10 hits during the game.

Macy Ziskin was the leader at the plate for the Lady Panthers with a triple. Haley Speaks provided a double. Kat Wallace contributed two singles. Hitting safely were Katherine Shell, Tia Bussey, Madison Thompson, Jada Henderson, Rileigh Allen and Cheyenne Motley.

South Jones finished with three hits for the game as Madison Jones led with a double. Haley Thrash had two singles.

Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher as she provided a dominating performance on the mound with five strikeouts and no walks.

Grace Stringer was the losing pitcher for South Jones with eight strikeouts and no walks.
