ETHEL – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats defeated the Ethel Lady Tigers 10-0 Friday night in the first game of the Class 1A South State Championship.

“We played well,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “Our bats were hot tonight. It’s always big to win game one on the road.”

The Lady Cats (24-6) will return home to host the Lady Tigers on Monday for the second game of the series starting at 4 p.m. If a third game is needed, it will immediately follow the first game.

Lady Cats 10, Lady Tigers 0

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Cats got their bats going and exploded with a three-run surge to claim a 3-0 lead.

Bogue Chitto continued its offensive dominance throughout the rest of the contest. The Lady Cats plated one run each in the fourth and fifth innings, two runs in the sixth inning and finished off the Lady Tigers with another three-run blast in the seventh inning to collect the win.

Christian Black had a solid performance in the pitching circle to earn the win for BC with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Jessica Mitchell suffered the loss for the Lady Tigers with no strikeouts and no walks.

Cherie Savoie sparked the Lady Cats’ offensive surge with a double and three singles. Zariah Matthews, Terrah Nelson and Christian Black fueled the flames with two singles each. Julianna Frazier, Karly Leakes and Baileigh Jackson contributed two singles apiece. Codi Leggett provided a single.

Sidney Rone, Jessica Mitchell and Avery Bouchillon were the top hitters for the Lady Tigers with a single each.
