Lady Panthers win gold in track and field

The Ole Brook Lady Panthers captured two gold medals in Saturday’s Class 5A state and field competition at Pearl.

Mya Washington took home gold in the discuss event with a toss of 98 feet and nine inches.

The Lady Panthers 4×800 relay team of Miyah Miller, Asia Byrd, Ayanna McNairy and Arnancy Arnold brought home gold with with a time of 10:21.20. These girls also made history for Brookhaven by becoming the first team to be recorded in MHSAA record books winning the first-ever 4×800 relay event.

“I am extremely proud for these girls,” said BHS coach Darien Dorsey. “Asia Byrd, Miyah Miller, Ayanna McNairy and Arnancy Arnold have worked really hard this season. Their hard work in practice paid off. Their goal was to beat Natchez and win the state championship.

“Washington was very consistent this season,” said Dorsey. “She won the majority of her meets that she participated in and finished strong by winning state.”
