BILOXI – Carlos Franco came up with the bases loaded in the 14th inning and ripped a ground-rule double to right, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the Mississippi Braves the lead for good in a 6-2 win over the Biloxi Shuckers Wednesday night at MGM Park.

Willians Astudillo followed with a two-run double of his own to put the game away, giving Stephen Janas (3-2) the win in relief and Tristan Archer (2-2) the loss for Biloxi (30-22).

It was the second time in 10 days that the M-Braves (23-29) played a marathon game, after winning a 16-inning affair on May 22 at Mobile, 3-2.

In his second relief inning, Archer allowed a single to Mel Rojas Jr. on a bunt then hit Dansby Swanson by a pitch. Dustin Peterson singled to left to load the bases, setting up Franco’s tie-breaking double.

Archer allowed four runs on six hits in an inning of work in the relief loss. Janas pitched two scoreless innings as the fifth pitcher of the game for Mississippi.

The game was tied from the seventh inning until the 14th. Mississippi trailed early 2-0, but Johan Camargo hit a solo home run in the fifth, his third of the year, to start the Braves’ scoring.

The Braves tied the game in the seventh after Jordy Lara singled and Rojas doubled to right to score him, making it 2-2. Rojas was thrown out at third trying to stretch it and Mississippi couldn’t find the tiebreaker.

Biloxi got both of their runs in the second off starter Chris Ellis. Nick Ramirez started the frame with a single and Jacob Nottingham doubled to left to put two in scoring position. Garrett Cooper singled on the infield for a 1-0 lead. Nick Shaw walked to load the bases and Javier Betancourt lined out to left for a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Ellis took a no-decision, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out six and walking three. Shuckers starter Adrian Houser also took a no-decision, allowing a run on seven hits over six frames with four strikeouts and a walk.

Stephen Peterson (BS, 1) allowed the tying run in the seventh, suffering the blown save on two hits.

Jacob Schrader paced the Braves’ bats with four hits while Franco added three more. Seven different Braves batters finished with multiple hits.

Jason Hursh, Madison Younginer, Brandon Cunniff and Janas combined for eight relief innings in the win.

Mississippi and Biloxi will continue the series on tonight at 7:10 p.m., at MGM Park, with left-hander Sean Newcomb (2-2, 3.71) set to take on right-hander Javi Salas (3-1, 3.79).
