A recovery team trying to locate two victims who were buried when a gravel pit caved in Friday did not find anyone in the cab of a buried haul truck Tuesday night, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

MEMA said this morning that the team “worked overnight to remove material around the excavator in an attempt to enter its cab. They are still moving sand to locate the cab of the excavator.”

Earlier attempts to lift out the dump truck and track hoe that James “Dee” Hemphill and Emmitt Shorter were driving when a quicksand-like slurry engulfed their vehicles while they were working at the Green Brothers Gravel Co. pit near Crystal Springs failed.
