Brookhaven’s MasterChef advances to cook again

Katie Dixon, a Brookhaven native, earned her spot to cook in next week’s episode of Fox’s MasterChef by butchering a lobster in 20 minutes.

Her knife skills thrilled judges Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi enough to add her to the 11 home cooks safe for the week.

Being safe meant she wasn’t one of the five facing the pressure test in the second half of the episode, which aired Wednesday. Those five contestants were tasked with recreating one of Ramsay’s signature dishes, a lobster tortellini in a seafood broth, with the owner of the worst attempt going home.

In the episode to air July 13, Dixon will compete in a team challenge which puts her cooking for members of the armed services.

“It was my absolute joy and pleasure to be able to do something for our service members,” Dixon told The Daily Leader Wednesday night. “They were an absolute delight.”

Dixon, 33, is the daughter of Henry and Vickie Newman of Brookhaven. She is a personal trainer and chef in Hattiesburg.
