Miss Mississippi’s Laura Lee Lewis could zip straight past the other contestants in the Miss America pageant and land in the semi-finals, but she needs her hometown’s help.

Online voting is open for the Miss America People’s Choice. The woman with the most votes at the end of the contest gets an automatic spot in the top 15 in the Miss America pageant as the “Fan Choice” contestant.

To vote for Lewis, go to MissAmerica.org/vote and click on Lewis’ picture. They’re organized alphabetically by state. After the vote, there’s an option to share the vote on Facebook and Twitter, which Lewis encourages. Voting is limited to once per day.

Lewis’ mother, Lorin, said voting in the People’s Choice contest is an important part of the Miss America pageant.

“This wonderful community has always been so supportive of its youth,” she said. “We are deeply appreciative for the outpouring of love and support for our daughter as she prepares to compete in Miss America. We need your votes to get her in the top 15.”

“With Mississippi being one of the smaller states, it will be most helpful for us all to vote for her daily and ask your friends and family to do the same. It only takes a few seconds and every vote is important. So, go Mississippi. Let’s bring that crown home.”

Voting is open until Sept. 5 at 10:59 p.m.

The Fan Choice Contestant will be announced during the live broadcast of the 2017 Miss America competition television special, scheduled for Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
