Funeral services for Johnnie Mae “Sug” Jones, of Brookhaven, are Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. James M.B. Church in Brookhaven with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jones, 84, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at her residence. She was born Oct. 29, 1932 to John “Doodle” Rancifer and Ludie Martin Sanders. She was the second of six children. She joined St. James M.B. Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her health failed. She united in Holy matrimony to Simmie LeRoy Jones April 19, 1951, and to this union six children were born.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; sisters, Elaine, Vergie Mae, Geneva, Irma T, Wessie, and Bertha; brothers, James Sanders, Walter and John Rancifer.
Survivors are her four daughters, Shirley Ann Johnson, Patricia (Vernell) Qualls, Karen (Phillip) Sterling, Jacqueline “Jackie” Bates, all of Brookhaven; two sons, Osman (Rajeeyah) Shahid, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Randy (Maxine) Jones, of Brookhaven; three sisters, Annie Smith, of Brookhaven, Louella (Lee) McDaniel, of Indianola, and Louise Love, of California; one sister-in-law, Hosie “Pat” Sanders, of Webb; godson, Jamie Lee (Jackie) Howard; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
