Wolves tennis teams drop road matches

PERKINSTON — The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves tennis team fell 9-0 to Mississippi Gulf Coast recently, giving the team their first loss on the year.

The Lady Wolves face Jones County Junior College today at 2 p.m. and enter the match with a 4-1 record.

The Lady Wolves struggled on all courts Saturday as the Lady Bulldogs claimed wins on all three doubles and all six singles courts. Ximena Daza and Laura Vargas fell 8-1 at No. 1 doubles to Paulina Estrada and Bianca Buie, while Susanna Ratcliff and Bayli Battle lost 8-1 at No. 2 to Jenna Lyons and Katie Burrall. Maddie Ogden and Chantel Quarles rounded out the Lady Wolves doubles teams with an 8-0 loss to Kaci Calhoun and Jasmine Sartin.

In singles play Daza fell to Estrada in a hard fought 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 match at No. 1. Vargas fell to Bui 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2, and Quarles lost 6-0, 6-0 to Burrall at No. 3. Ratcliff also lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to MGCCC’s Sartin. Battle fought hard at No. 5 singles for the Lady Wolves but fell 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 to Lyons. Ogden closed out singles play for Co-Lin with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Jillian Craft.

MGCCC 8, Co-Lin 1

The Wolves suffered a tough loss this past weekend to Mississippi Gulf Coast after being swept on the singles courts. The 8-1 loss gives the Wolves a 4-2 record on the season.

Co-Lin is back on the court today as the team travels to Ellisville to face JCJC at 2 p.m.

Sebastian Osorio and Juan Pablo Pinilla paired up at No. 1 doubles for the Wolves and grabbed the Wolves’ only victory of the day. The duo defeated Travis Bell and John Murphy of Gulf Coast 8-4. Cory Alderman and Tripp Case fell at No. 2 doubles 8-3, and Hayes Thompson and Sebastian Harrell lost at No. 3 8-1 to MGCCC’s Reed Cudd and Brett Bowen 8-1.
