Ole Brook powerlifting places 2nd in South State

The Ole Brook Power Lifting team finished third second in 5A south state Thursday afternoon.

The result of the successful performance for the Panthers is six of the athletes qualifying for the state meet on April 14 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

Brookhaven finished second overall with 36 total points, only one spot behind Gautier High School with 39 total points.

“I’m really proud of the guys for giving it their all,” Brookhaven power lifting head coach Russ Britt said. “A couple of breaks didn’t go our way, but we plan to fix those before the state meet. Every kid on the team did their part to contribute to our team point total. I’m more proud of that than anything.”

First place winners included Kenneth Dixon in the 181-weight class at 1,275 total pounds and a personal best deadlift of 580 pounds, Ben Springfield in the 275-weight class at 1,370 total pounds and personal bests in squatting at 575 pounds and deadlift at 550 pounds, and Trace Clopton in the 308-weight class at 1,440 total pounds, including a personal best 620 pounds in squatting and 530 pounds in deadlifting.

Jeffery Johnson finished in the 310+ weight class with a personal best 1,505 total pounds and 330 bench press.

Third place finishes included Jevonta Stewart in the 115-weight class with a personal best 560 total pounds and a personal best 230-pound deadlift. Kenneth Bellamy also finished third in the 150-weight class with 1,050 total pounds.

Kiernan Williams finished fourth in the 242-weight class with 1,255 total pounds.

Fifth place finishes included Jariq Motley in the 165-weight class with 745 total pounds and Dahauntre Hill in the 308+ weight class with 1,305 total pounds.

Johnathon Smith finished sixth in the 148-weight class with 810 total pounds.
