Funeral services for Elvin Smith, of Brookhaven, will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Dr. Garland Boyd will officiate. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from noon until time of services at the church.

Mr. Smith, 89, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Brookhaven to Frank and Nora Smith. Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 59 1/2 years, Neta Fay Smith; his parents; sisters, Wessie Reed and Genevieve Case; and brother, Edward.

Survivors are his son, Johnny Mitchell Smith and wife Marilyn, of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Chris M. Smith and wife Brandy, and Eric Smith; great-grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Gracie Smith and Trevor Smith, of Brookhaven; sister, Kathleen Smith; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Smith’s caregiver, Darlene Pell Hughes and family.
