A memorial service for Billy J. Barton, of Monticello, will be Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 5 p.m. at Brookhaven Church of God. Brother Randall Buchanan will officiate. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 25, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Barton, 54, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Lawrence County Nursing Center in Monticello. He was born Feb. 8, 1963, in Arizona, to Bill and Carolyn Barton.

He worked in the oilfields in the 1980s as a floor hand and worked his later years at the Local 619 prior to becoming disabled.

Preceding him in death were his parents; the love of his life, Kristi “Kooder Babe” Thornton; and one sister, Bridgette Barton.

Survivors are his daughters, Shauna Smith (Daniel), of Brookhaven, and Tara McGill (Chris), of Brookhaven; sisters, Betty (K.K.) Chapman, of Lawrence County, and Salina Garrett (Tony), of Tennessee; brothers, Shane Barton, of North Carolina, Eddie (Tub) Barton, of Florida, and Lance Magee, of Bogue Chitto; seven grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
