Lorenda Reese is firmly committed to dancing as a way to minister to the hurting and lost.

The Brookhaven resident teaches God’s Ordained Liturgical Dance School’s Mississippi chapter.

Praise dancing requires a person to go beyond a song and garments. That’s what her students learn at G.O.L.D.  Praise School of Ministry.

Elder Pamela Grimes founded chapters in Mississippi as well as Georgia and Texas. She’ll assist Reese in graduation ceremonies Saturday at Rhema Word Worship Church at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Nine women, representing all three chapters, will attend the commencement to be ordained and licensed to minister through praise dancing.

Among the graduates is Brookhaven resident Kristy Giddens, who was taught by Reese.

“I asked for it to be in Brookhaven because there are so many praise dancers in our area,” Reese said.

Reese encourages those interested in the ministry to attend the graduation.

“With the teachings, there’s an understanding of where dance was in the Bible,” Reese said. “Whether or not you’re on a dance ministry, a part of a dance ministry, the director or you just want an understanding of it… this class gives you the opportunity to get a full understanding of what praise dancers actually do.”

Reese teaches classes during the week in Brookhaven. There’s also an online course available for people who cannot travel to any of the chapter locations.

She tests her students on their knowledge as much as needed. “They’re actually learning and it’s making a difference,” she said.

The teacher said the more knowledge people gain about dancing for God, the better they can minister to others through dance.

“The message that we give is with our movement through dance and it tells a story,” Reese said. “We’re not looking for applause… we’re looking to see people healed.”
