Ole Brook Panthers continue hot streak

The Brookhaven Panthers hosted district opponent Natchez Friday night and dominated from start to finish, picking up the 10-1 victory. Brookhaven shut out South Pike Saturday by a score of 2-0 to extend their winning streak to 14 games and move to 14-5 on the season.

The Panthers got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when junior Tyler Mixon scored on an errant throw to third base and Mixon scored from home and took a 1-0 lead. With two outs, sophomore Jacob Porter hit an RBI double to give the Panthers the 2-0 lead.

Sophomore John Hilbert came up big for the Panthers in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to score freshman Byrion Robinson to give the Panthers the 3-0 lead.

The Panthers started to pour it on in the bottom of the third inning with back-to-back singles from Porter and senior Tate Walley. Hilbert continued his big day with a two-RBI single after that to give the Panthers the commanding 7-0 lead.

Natchez would tack on a run in the top of the fourth, but Brookhaven scored one run in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the 10-1 win.

Sophomore Coker Wright picked up the victory for Brookhaven Friday night. He pitched five innings, giving up no earned runs (one run) on one hit, two walks and struck out seven batters. Senior Dalton Fortado came on in relief and pitched the final two innings, giving up no runs on no hits, no walks and struck out four.

Hilbert led the Panthers at the plate going 2-for-4 with three RBIs on the night. Porter also came up big with three hits and three RBIs as well. Wright went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs to round out the scoring leaders.

Next up for Ole Brook is a road district game at Provine Tuesday night, First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
