Ole Brook softball goes 2-0 in Magee tournament

The Brookhaven softball team extended their winning streak to five games going 2-0 in the Magee tournament Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, the Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead and held on against Oak Grove 6-3. Trailing 6-4 heading into the final inning against Northeast Jones, the Lady Panthers scored three runs to get the comeback win in game two 7-6.

Freshman Lauren Perren got Oak Grove on the board first with an RBI single with two outs to take the 1-0 lead. Ole Brook responded with an RBI sacrifice fly from senior Macy Ziskin to tie the game at 1-1. Senior Tia Bussey scored on a passed ball behind home plate to give them the 2-1 lead.

After Oak Grove tied the game in the top of the third inning, the Lady Panthers responded with four runs in the bottom half and held on for the 6-3 victory.

Junior Madison Thompson took the win for Brookhaven on the mound. She pitched all five innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and five walks.

Ziskin and sophomore Kat Wallace led the Lady Panthers with two RBIs each.

Ole Brook 7, Northeast Jones 6

In a back and forth contest, the Lady Panthers scored three runs in the top of the fourth to come from behind and take the win 7-6.

Trailing 5-4 heading into the top of the fourth, senior Cheyenne Motley came up clutch and hit a two-run homer to give the Lady Panthers the 6-5 lead.

Up 7-5, Northeast Jones tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth, but couldn’t take the lead as Brookhaven got the 7-6 victory in thrilling fashion.

Junior Jadeyn Fuller earned the win for Ole Brook, pitching four innings and giving up no earned runs (six runs) on one hit and three walks.

Ziskin had another big game for the Lady Panthers with three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. Motley followed up with two RBIs on the day as well.

Next up for the Lady Panthers is a home game against Enterprise Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m.
