Brookhaven High Panther tennis defeats Petal Panthers 4-3

After their tough loss to Wesson last week, the Brookhaven tennis team bounced back and picked up a great win over Petal, winning the overall match 4-3.

The victory gives the Panthers much-needed momentum heading into the MHSAA 5A individual district tennis tournament in Jackson on Wednesday. The teams that reach the finals will head to MHSAA 5A state tournament in Oxford starting May 8.

In the boys’ singles match, Braxton Wallis of Brookhaven took down Luke Martin of Petal in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

In the girls’ singles match, Sarah Grace Evans of Brookhaven defeated Emma Hampton of Petal in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

In the first boys’ doubles match, Connor Henderson and Ricardo Nicolletti of Petal defeated Michael Haynes Hutson and Cooper Patterson of Brookhaven in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. In the second boys’ doubles match, Tanner Crowe and Jesse Jarrell of Petal defeated Jonah Clark and Hayden Waldon of Brookhaven in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

In the first girls’ doubles match, Lea Allen and Maggie Massengill of Brookhaven defeated Mandy McAuley and Kaitlin Kindel of Petal in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the second girls’ doubles match, Kaitlin Craig and Jose Lewis of Petal took down Mackenzie Jackson and Abbigail Jones of Brookhaven 6-2, 5-7, 1-0.

In mixed doubles, Dalton Fortado and Alice Anne Walker of Brookhaven defeated Taylor Magee and Cody Oliver of Petal in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to win the overall match.
