Lady Hornets surge over Lady Panthers

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back as they cruised to the 8-0 victory over the Brookhaven Lady Panthers Monday night.

The win keeps Loyd Star perfect on the season at 17-0 with the regular season winding down, and the loss continues the tough stretch for Brookhaven and drops them to 15-8 overall.

Senior Makenzie Smith pitched another great game for Loyd Star and dominated from start to finish. Smith pitched the complete seven innings and gave up no runs on three hits, one walk and struck out eight batters. Junior Madison Thompson took the loss on the mound for Brookhaven, going six innings and giving up eight runs (none earned) on seven hits, three walks and struck out one batter.

Two errors by Brookhaven and a stolen base by Loyd Star helped get the Lady Hornets started on offense in the second inning and the game took off from there. Loyd Star tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cushion their lead and took home the 8-0 victory.

Marley and Megan Poole both had a big day for the Lady Hornets, each leading the team with two RBIs on the night. Abigail Thornton had the other RBI for Loyd Star.

Seniors Tia Bussey, Macy Ziskin and Cheyenne Motley each had one hit to lead the Ole Brook offense on the night.
