BHS tennis tops Natchez in MHSAA tourney

The Ole Brook tennis team took on Natchez Wednesday afternoon in the MHSAA district individual tennis tournament, where the Panthers handled their business and won the overall match 6-1.

The win moves the Panthers to the next round of the playoffs and 12 players qualified for the MHSAA individual state tournament with victories.

In girls’ singles, Kirdis Clark of Natchez won the district title by defeating Maddalynn Boyte of Brookhaven in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Boyte was the runner-up in the district.

In boys’ singles, Daniel Panzica won the district title by defeating Michael Babbitt of Natchez 5-0 in the finals. Babbitt retired from the match due to injury.

In mixed doubles, Mackenzie Jackson and Cooper Patterson of Brookhaven won the district by defeating Alexandra Jones and Jayhron Alexander of Natchez in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

In boys’ doubles, Will Moak and Dalton Fortado of Brookhaven won the district against Jarren Davis and Terrace Bindon of Natchez in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. In the second boys’ doubles match, Michael Haynes Hutson and Braxton Wallis of Brookhaven won the district by defeating Amar Weir and Larry Campbell of Natchez in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

To find out who would be the top seed in the state tournament, the two boys’ doubles pair faced off in a match, with Moak and Fortado coming out on top against Hutson and Wallis in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

In the first girls’ doubles match, Alice Anne Walker and Lea Allen of Brookhaven won the district title in a thrilling match against Kelsey McNeal and Danyel Weir of Natchez 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. In the second girls’ doubles match, Maggie Massengill and Abbigail Jones of Brookhaven won the district by taking down Kya Singleton and Keari Hayes of Natchez in a great match 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

To find out who would be the top seed in the state tournament, the two girls’ doubles pair faced off in a match, with Massengill and Jones coming out on top against Allen and Walker 6-4, 6-4.
