Funeral services for Gene Benson Fugler, of Sontag, are today, April 25, 2017, at 11a.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven with burial at Fair River Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday, April 24, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Fugler, 88, died Saturday, April 22, 2017, in Jackson. He was born in Delta Point, Louisiana, May 16, 1928, to Grover Benson Fugler and Montrie Deckard Fugler. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he served from October 11, 1951 to July 10, 1953, as a sergeant. He came home and worked in the oil field with Mid-Continent Drilling as a drilling superintendent. He was a member of The Church of the Way and American Legion. He was known as someone who put his heart into all he did including his love for his family, his work and God. He also enjoyed several other activities such as riding on his Ranger on Fair River.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Rhyne Fugler; parents; and a brother, Noel Wilborn.
Survivors are his children, Chuck Fugler and wife Jimmie, Clark Fugler and wife Sharon and Nancy Weeks and husband Johnny; one sister, Mildred Fugler Foster; five grandchildren, Amy Dunaway and husband Mike, Chase Fugler and wife Mandy, Brandon Fugler, Angela Miles and husband Stephen, and Candi Jones and husband Mark; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
