Brookhaven Police are searching for a man who robbed a convenience store on Brookway Boulevard Wednesday night.

An unidentified male entered Handy Mart at 555 Brookway Blvd. at 10:09 p.m., said BPD Capt. Clint Earls. The man came into the store from the west side of the building from behind the alley, he said.

“He demanded cash from the clerk,” Earls said. “Once she handed him the cash, he exited the building.”

While in the store, he kept his hands in his pockets most of the time, giving the clerk the impression he had a weapon. When he took them out briefly, she saw that he was wearing gloves. He also wore a mask that she described to police as a scarf-like material. He wore a gray hooded jacket and blue jeans.

He was of average to heavy build, he said.

The man left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot, he said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Brookhaven Police Department at 601-833-2424 or CrimeStoppers at 601-823-0150. Tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
