GULFPORT (AP) — A Mississippi city is planning to block the street in front of its police department to remember eight fallen police officers.

The Sun Herald reports the street in front of the Gulfport Police Department will be closed to traffic starting Thursday night and will remain closed until after a 9 a.m. memorial ceremony on the department’s front steps.

The event is in conjunction with National Police Week and is one of several taking place this week on the Mississippi Coast.
