Funeral services for Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy William Durr and seven other individuals, including two children, killed in a weekend shooting spree have been set.

Visitation for Durr, 36, of Bogue Chitto, will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Easthaven Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Easthaven with burial at Moak’s Creek Baptist Church. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A countywide prayer vigil hosted by city and county officials and area churches will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Civic Center.

Durr, the son of Debbie Durr and the late Donnie Durr, leaves behind a wife, Tressie, and son Nash.

He was a graduate of Mississippi College and a member of Brookhaven Masonic Lodge and Moak’s Creek Baptist Church. He had a passion for children and youth ministries and would use his talents as a ventriloquist to minister to them. 

The family suggests that memorials be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Research Hospital, 2500 N. State Street, Jackson, MS 39216, in memory of Deputy William Durr, in honor of Amelia Price.

Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements for the other seven people killed.

Pat Williams Tillman said they those slain in three separate locations over the weekend, except for Durr, are all related.

“I know all of these folks,” she said. “They’re my friends. They’re my neighbors.”

Services will be held on three days for the seven victims. Services for Jordan Blackwell, 17, and his cousin Austin Edwards, 11, both of Brookhaven, are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Jr. High. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home and also Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. James M.B. Church.

Services for Sheila Burage, 46, and her husband Ferral Burage, 45, of Brookhaven, are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Jr. High. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for Barbara Mitchell, 55, her daughter, Tacarra May, 35, and her sister Brenda May, 53, all of Bogue Chitto, are Monday. Visitation will be Sunday. Times have not been determined, Tillman said.
