Funerals scheduled for shooting victims

The funeral for a slain Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy will include a military flyover if weather permits.

Visitation for deputy William Durr, 36, of Bogue Chitto, will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Easthaven Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Easthaven with burial at Moak’s Creek Baptist Church. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Deputies, officers, troopers and first responders from the region are expected to attend the funeral.

“We’re expecting law enforcement from several different areas,” said funeral director Colby McMorris. “We’ve heard from agencies in north Mississippi and Louisiana. There will be officers in front of the procession and in the back.”

Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements for the other seven people killed.

Services will be held on three days for the seven victims. Services for Jordan Blackwell, 17, and his cousin Austin Edwards, 11, both of Brookhaven, are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Jr. High. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home and also Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. James M.B. Church.

Services for Sheila Burage, 46, and her husband Ferral Burage, 45, of Brookhaven, are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Jr. High. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for Barbara Mitchell, 55, her daughter, Tocarra May, 35, and her sister Brenda May, 53, all of Bogue Chitto, are Monday. Visitation will be Sunday. Times have not been determined.

A countywide prayer vigil hosted by city and county officials and area churches will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Civic Center.
