The Wesson Board of Alderman met quickly Tuesday night and approved three separate items on the agenda.

Wesson added a part-time officer to the police force following approval by the Board of Aldermen.

Percy Calhoun will join the department on a part-time basis. He also serves as a full-time narcotics officer for Copiah County Sheriff’s Office.

Wesson Police Chief Chad O’Quinn made the request.

“We really need the help when full-time officers are taking time off,” O’Quinn said.

O’Quinn also requested approval for travel reimbursement for an upcoming police chief conference on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Police chiefs need 40 hours of continuing education and O’Quinn plans to attend the conference in late June. The board approved the travel.

The board also appointed Sharon Hughes to the zoning committee.

The next Wesson Board of Aldermen meeting will be July 11 at 6 p.m. in the Wesson City Hall. The meeting will be held a week later than usual because of the Independence Day holiday.
