Girls Night Out draws large crowd

More than 1,000 ticket books for the seventh annual Girls Night Out shopping event were sold and groups of women were out Thursday night in full force redeeming tickets for discount purchases at Brookhaven merchants and restaurants.

“At last count, well over 1,000 tickets had been sold,” said Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Program Director Katie Nations. “We had tons of locals as well as surrounding areas including McComb, Tylertown, Jackson, Terry and Crystal Springs. Even several ladies from Louisiana and Alabama came and bought tickets this afternoon for the event.”

And while it’s a “girls” night out, there were a few men shopping as well.

The Chamber, along with 31 shops and restaurants, participated in the six-hour shopping event.

Participants received a coupon book that included a dining voucher worth $10 that can be redeemed at participating restaurants through Saturday. The ticket books included discount coupons that were redeemable Thursday night only, but also coupons that are good through the summer, Nations said.

They also received a GNO T-shirt and entry tickets to the after-party at The Haven and the 5K walk/run which will begin in front of the Chamber at 9 a.m. Saturday.

“The whole community is invited to walk and run,” she said.

Those without tickets can still participate in the walk for a $10 donation, which will be used for a GNO scholarship in the Mississippi Scholars program.

The Chamber will have first, second and third place prizes for winners and door prizes will be drawn after the race as well. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and warm-up is at 8:45 a.m.
