James Reginald Moreton

Funeral services for James Reginald Moreton, of Brookhaven, are Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church with burial at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today, June 9, 2017, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Riverwood Family Funeral Service. He will lie in state Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Mr. Moreton, 83, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at his residence. He was born April 19, 1934, to Samuel Evans Moreton Jr. and Eola Williams Moreton. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was founder and CEO of First Federal Savings and Loan.

He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, an Eagle Scout, member of Order of the Arrow, Silver Beaver Award, Brookhaven Lions Club (Lion of the Year 1999), past President and Board Member of the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, Co-founder and executive committee member of the Lincoln County Republican Party and Delegate to the 1964 National Republican Convention.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Elizabeth Pinckney Moreton; parents; and brother, Charles P. Moreton.

Survivors are his son, Douglas P. Moreton, of Concord, North Carolina; daughters, Katharine St John and husband Drew, of Madison, and Mary Beth Smallwood and husband Bill, of Tupelo; sister, Janice M. Hobbs, of Brookhaven; seven grandchildren, Sarah St John Hammond and husband Justin, Lawrence H. St John II and wife Skye, Katharine St John Staten and husband Grant, Robert D. Moreton, James Thomas Moreton, W. Carter Smallwood IV and Samuel M. Smallwood; and two great grandchildren, Chandler Harris St John and Virginia Ann Staten.

Memorials can be made to the MS School of Arts or Faith Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice.
