Funeral services for Lela Marie Poindexter, of Jackson, formerly of Brookhaven, are Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Wade M.B. Church in Brookhaven with burial at Carver Heights Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, July 7, 2017, from 1 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Family hour will be Friday, July 7, 2017, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Ms. Poindexter, 76, died Monday, July 3, 2017, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was born March 16, 1941, to Lyton Poindexter and Nadine McBeth Poindexter. She was a 1959 graduate of Alexander High School. She also graduated from Jackson State University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.

She retired from Jackson Public Schools.

Survivors are her son, Brian Poindexter, of Jackson; uncle, Frank McBeth, of Ellenwood, Georgia; aunt, Betty McBeth Spiller, of Brookhaven; and many other relatives and friends.
