GULFPORT (AP) — A Mississippi man who has admitted to kidnapping a woman outside of a club has been sentenced.
The Sun Herald reports 41-year-old Maurice Pugh pleaded guilty Wednesday and a judge sentenced him to 30 years for the February 2016 attack.
Assistant District Attorney Matthew Burrell told the court that the victim was leaving Club Blue Envy in Gulfport when a man grabbed her from behind, dragged her to a nearby vehicle and began taking her clothes off.
According to a police report, an officer found Pugh holding the victim around her neck. Pugh fled when the officer spotted him. Pugh was released from state prison about a month before being charged with the attack. He was on post-release supervision for kidnapping and rape.
