Funeral services for Virginia Ellen Martin, of Bogue Chitto, are Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven with burial at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held today, July 26, 2017, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home

Mrs. Martin, 76, died Monday, July 24, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 7, 1941, to Virgil N. Cox and Olivette Summers Cox. She was a retired English teacher at Brookhaven Academy and a workforce specialist at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She was also a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Her hobbies included, but were not limited to, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Betty C. Golmon and grandson, Casey Coghlan.

Survivors are her husband, Bobby Ray Martin; sons, Jimmy Martin and wife Julie, and Buck Martin; daughter, Dehna Martin Maxie and husband Shannon; sister, Nancy Cox Buckels and husband Willie; brother-in-law, Horace Golmon; four grandchildren, Kristen Martin, Devan Whittington Kent, Bridget Martin and Lauren Coghlan ; two great-grandchildren, Braceigh and Brooks Kent; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
