Funeral services for Mary Reid Hemphill, of Brookhaven, are Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at 11 a.m.at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven with burial at Bogue Chitto Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hemphill, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017. She was born Dec. 11, 1924, to Lemmie Reid and Ruth Summers Reid. She was a graduate of Fair Oak Springs High School and Soule Business College and worked with an abstract company in several Mississippi county seats. She was working at Meadville and staying at the Bude Hotel when she met Donald Alan “Don” Hemphill who became her husband. She worked for the Mississippi Welfare Department, was a bookkeeper for Welshens Farms and Ford Motor Company in Rosedale, and was office manager for Dr. Louie Wilkins for 38 years. Her husband retired in 1985 and Mary retired in 1987. She was always active in her church and work for the church nursery for years. She married Don Sept. 29, 1950, and they enjoyed a wonderful 67 years together. She was a member of Daughters of the Revolution and First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers George Dewey Reid and Rev. Wiley Bliss Reid.

She is survived by her husband; daughter Donna Hemphill Magee and husband Jimmy; sisters Billie Reid Capozzi, Sarah Reid Berthelson and husband George; sister-in-law, Katie Reid; five grandchildren, Molly Magee Shepherd and husband John Thomas, Kelly Magee Cates and husband Zach, Jay Magee and wife Caroline, Bonnie Magee and Pierre Urisanga; and devoted friend and caregiver Bobbie Quarles.
