JACKSON (AP) — A woman is recovering from injuries after police in Jackson say her son was killed when he intervened in a fight between her and a man who is now charged with murder.

Jackson police say the 31-year-old man was charged following his release from a hospital on Thursday after being transported there days before with stab wounds. The woman’s 21-year-old son was shot multiple times Aug. 21 and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Demarcus Banyard is charged in the killing of Reginald Cammon during the domestic dispute. Officers had responded early that Monday morning to a call reporting a shooting and stabbing. Police believe Banyard had physically assaulted his girlfriend.
