JACKSON (AP) — A man has been charged in death of a woman who was shot while stopped at a traffic light.
Jackson police say in a news release Tuesday that 21-year-old Nicholas Coats was charged Monday with murder. It was not immediately clear whether he is represented by an attorney.
Investigators say 23-year-old Chelsie Lynn Kirschten was in the driver’s seat Aug. 17 near downtown Jackson when a man walked up and shot through the driver’s side window of the Pontiac sedan. She was shot in the upper back.
Officers say a passenger was in the front seat. The car kept moving for about a half mile before it stopped near Interstate 55. Kirschten was declared dead at the scene.
