BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Police say an 18-year-old Mississippi man has been found shot to death after what was likely a robbery in Louisiana’s capital city.

The Advocate reports Baton Rouge police say the Natchez man’s body was discovered early Tuesday morning. Investigators say they believe robbery may be a motive in the killing. Sgt. Don Coppola says Jocquez Ivory was pronounced dead at the scene after police found him around 1:30 a.m.

Ivory’s grandmother Mary Chatman says police told her family the attackers “robbed him of everything he had,” including his car. She said Ivory was shot eight times while trying to run away.

Chatman says Ivory was in Baton Rouge doing work for a company that surveys stores’ inventory. She says he worked roughly three months as security at Louisiana State Penitentiary.
