Mrs. Newman, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at home. She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Brookhaven to Floyd and Lillie Allen.  She graduated from New Sight School in 1945, where she played sports and met the love of her life and future husband, Henry Lee Newman Jr. They married on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 22,1945.  She was a loving wife and helpmate to her husband and a wonderful stay-at-home mother to their two daughters. She sewed clothes for her girls, their dolls and herself. She enjoyed growing a garden each year, putting up vegetables, pickles and jellies for her family, and was a wonderful cook. She was a Christian and a lifelong member of New Sight Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her health declined. She lovingly cared for many pets over the years.
