Bobby Bass, defensive coordinator at Brookhaven High School, was announced as Newton County High School’s new head football coach Monday.

Bass joined the Panthers in 2015 after coaching the same position for Clinton. Bass is a Natchez native and also coached at Newton County earlier in his career. He also coached at Tupelo and JZ George High School.

Brookhaven finished the 2017 season with a 11-2 record after losing a close game to Laurel in the playoffs. Bass led one of the strongest defensive units in Region 3-5A. Two Panthers were in the top 10 in tackles on the season, three made the top 10 for sacks and one was in the top 10 in interceptions.
