George Eldridge Smith

Funeral services for George Eldridge Smith, of Wesson, are Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Red Star Ward) in Brookhaven, with burial to follow in the Red Star Cemetery. Bishop Bruce A. Britt will officiate the services. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, from noon until time of service at the church. 

Mr. Smith, 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, with his loving family by his side. He was born July 1, 1926, in Loyd Star, to Clarence Marshall Smith and Katie Maybelle Britt Smith. He was a retired truck driver and oil field worker, as well as a United States Navy veteran. He kept his family laughing with his humor and pranks and had a special relationship with his grandson Cody, who was named after him. He was also a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Red Star Ward).

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 54 years, Juanita Pettway Smith; son, Curtis Loal Williams; brother, Talmadge Smith; and sisters, Edith Norton and Marjorie Wilcox.

Survivors are his daughters, Sherree Smith and husband Kerry, and Sheila Bowman and husband Barry, both of the Loyd Star community; grandchildren, Cody Freeman, Derek Smith (Tiffany), Katie Slaton (Brandon), Brookes Prestridge (Corey), Karah Williams (Zach), Zane Crosby (Ashley), Jenny Edwards (Paul), Angela McKay (Leif), Amanda Havard (Turner), Courtney Bowman, and Kelcey Slater (Allen); 17 great- grandchildren; sister, Francis Selman of Fullerton, California; brother, Charles Smith (Martha), of Brookhaven; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
