The Enterprise Yellow Jackets were unable to keep up with Region 7-2A opponent Amite County Friday night, falling hard 107-52.

It was clear from the get-go the Jackets were going to have slow down the Trojans to win their first regional game. Enterprise was able to stay close for the first quarter, but Amite’s height and speed took over from there, and the Trojans built on an already-large halftime lead by racking up points in the second half.

“We knew this was going to be a challenging game, as they are bigger and faster than we are,” said Enterprise coach Shane Adams.

The game started out with ties and lead changes. Amite County came out on top, holding a 20-13 lead heading into the second quarter. The seven-point deficit would be the closest the Jackets would come against the Trojans.

Although Enterprise fought to stay in the game, Amite County started to run away before halftime, leading 56-29 going into halftime.

The rest of the game saw the Jackets try as hard as they could to stay in the game, only to see Amite County’s offense pour on the speed. Enterprise simply couldn’t keep up and fell by a final score of 107-52.

The loss puts the Jackets at 2-11 overall and 0-5 in Region 7-2A. The win moves Amite County to 6-12 overall and 3-1 in the region.

Despite the blowout, the Jackets had two players reach double digits. Senior Cade Feltus netted 12 points and one rebound, and junior Jalon Grinstead also netted a dozen, along with three rebounds and one steal. Junior Peyton Jergins shot eight points and had one rebound.

Sophomore Dylan Vaughn hit seven points and one assist, while freshman Anthony Nations made five points and had two rebounds. Senior Hunter Bland made four points and one rebound, and senior Austin Burns hit three points, with one rebound. Eighth-grader Trey Baker finished with one point.

Senior JeVante Jenkins led the Jackets on the board, getting seven rebounds and three assists. Senior Ryan Amic followed with six rebounds and one assist.

Amite County will head to West Lincoln Tuesday, Jan. 30, to take on the Region 7-2A Bears.

Enterprise will also be in action that night, as they head to Loyd Star to take on the Region 7-2A Hornets.
