Close victory for Co-Lin Lady Wolves — Second half of double header is redemptive
It was a pitching duel for most of game two on Wednesday, but an RBI single from Harmoni Ashley and a hit batter, proved enough for a 2-1 Co-Lin victory.
The contest was scoreless for the first five and a half frames, until a leadoff walk, an error, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Lady Wolves. Ashley drove in Julie Scheurmann with a ground ball to left, and Alexsundria Thomas was hit with the bases loaded to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.
Gulf Coast cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh with a solo homer, but the score was not enough as Mackenzie Gros forced back-to-back ground balls to secure the 2-1 victory.
Gros pitched Co-Lin to victory as she allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, walking one.
Savanna Bryant took the loss for Gulf Coast. She allowed three hits and two runs over five and a third innings, striking out four.
Ashley, Paige Hulin, and Abigail Thorton each collected one hit to lead the Lady Wolves at the plate. Co-Lin was sure-handed in the field and did not commit a single error. Thorton had the most chances in the field with nine.
