A one-vehicle accident on I-55 that sent a truck driver to the hospital and closed northbound lanes for several hours Monday remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Scott A. Sylvester, 53, of St. Landry, Louisiana, was injured in the crash and was taken to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center for treatment, said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry with MHP.

Sylvester was driving a 2009 Peterbilt utility truck northbound on I-55 near mile marker 26 around 1:46 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The truck left the roadway and rolled onto its side in the wooded area beside the interstate, Fortenberry said.

The truck was registered to Irby Construction.

The heavy equipment took several hours to remove before the interstate was cleared for traffic. Both lanes were closed for about four hours with northbound traffic rerouted to Hwy. 51 at exit 24, which is Lake Dixie Springs in Lincoln County, just north of the Pike County line. One northbound lane was opened around 6 p.m.

The scene was completely cleared and the second lane opened by 8 p.m.

Several fire departments and law enforcement agencies also responded.
