North Pike vs. Brookhaven
The Panthers claimed the No. 2 seed in the first round of the playoffs, and will take on North Pike with the winner advancing to take on West Jones next week.
Brookhaven has had a solid year, and has put themselves in position to take advantage of having home field in the first round of the playoffs.
North Pike has some solid options at the top of their batting order, but it’ll be tough for them to win on the road.
Prediction: Brookhaven
Wesson vs. Morton
Wesson struggled with non-district play, but the Cobras really made it count in district competition and were able to move their way into the playoffs.
The good news about the playoffs is that everybody starts out with a 0-0 record, and everyone has the same opportunity to win the series.
Morton can pitch it well, and the Cobras will have to take advantage of the Panthers mistakes if they want to win a series without homefield advantage.
Prediction: Morton
Pelahatchie vs. Loyd Star
The Hornets had to win their final seven district games if they wanted to win the district championship and garner the no. 1 seed from the region.
They did just that, and they’ll take on a Pelahatchie team that has struggled as of late.
Loyd Star has depth on the mound, and they’ve got the experience of a playoff team having played in two state championship series the past two seasons.
If the Hornets get out to a fast start, they’ll likely be able to get out of the series and move on to the second round.
Prediction: Loyd Star
Pisgah vs. Enterprise
Outside of a two-game stretch against Bogue Chitto, Enterprise has been consistent throughout the season and have proven to be a tough out for teas.
The Yellowjackets actually beat Loyd Star twice, but the losses to the Bobcats kept them from winning the district title.
The good news for Enterprise is that they’ll have homefield advantage in the first round of the playoffs against Pisgah.
Prediction: Enterprise.
Bogue Chitto vs. Mize
This is likely the most intriguing first-round playoff matchup with county schools because Bogue Chitto has proven they can beat the upper-tier teams in 2A.
Bogue Chitto has been playing well as of late, and while they’re not going to have the home-field advantage in the series, they’ll have every opportunity to knock off the Bulldogs
Prediction: Bogue Chitto
West Lincoln vs. St. Joes
St. Joes has become one of the premier 2A baseball programs in the state, and they appear to be fully loaded going into the 2018 playoffs.
West Lincoln has played well in spurts, and they can be a tough out for St. Joes if they play well over a three-game period.
Prediction: St. Joes
Predicted winners
Brookhaven over North Pike; Morton over Wesson; Loyd Star over Pelahatchie; Enterprise over Pisgah; Bogue Chitto over Mize; and St. Joes over West Lincoln.
