Six teams enter second round of playoffs — Softball crews amp it up as they advance into games Tuesday, Thursday

Here’s an overview of the area’s high school softball playoff games this week.

Wesson vs. Choctaw Central

Wesson was afforded a bye in the first round of the playoffs, and let Choctaw Central and West Marion take part in a play-in game to determine their playoff competition.

Choctaw Central came out of the series victorious, knocking off West Marion 18-4 and 11-1 to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Choctaw Central finished second in their division, as they lost a tiebreaker to Raleigh High School, causing them to miss the first-round bye.

Wesson will travel to Choctaw Central Tuesday, and return home for games two and possibly three on Thursday night.

Lawrence County vs.

Northeast Jones

The Lady Cougars watched the Northeast Jones and Pass Christian series with interest to determine who their opponent would be in the first round of the playoffs.

The series was simplistic as Northeast Jones was able to knock off Pass Christian in only two contests to advance to the second round.

Lawrence County comes into the series having lost only one game all year, and will be the favorite in the series.

The Cougars will travel to Northeast Jones Tuesday, before coming home for game two and possibly game three on Thursday.

Brookhaven vs. Stone

The Lady Panthers will return to action Tuesday at Stone High School as they were afforded the luxury of a first-round bye for winning their district.

Stone knocked off Wayne County in two contests over the weekend, and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Brookhaven went undefeated in its district, and the Panthers have played their best softball as of late heading into the playoffs.

The Panthers will travel to Stone Tuesday and will return home Thursday for a game two and possibly a game three of the series.

Enterprise vs. Enterprise-Clarke

Enterprise-Clarke dominated Richton in two run-rule victories over the weekend to move to the second round and take on Enterprise High School.

Enterprise won the Lincoln County district, and they didn’t have to play in the first round of the playoffs.

Enterprise will travel to Enterprise-Clarke Tuesday, and then they’ll return home on Thursday for a game two and possibly game three of the series.

Loyd Star vs. Taylorsville

Taylorsville didn’t lose a game in their district, and comes into the second-round of the playoffs with a 14-5-1 record.

Loyd Star dominated Pisgah in the first round of playoffs to advance to the contest against Taylorsville. The Tartars were afforded a bye by luxury of winning their district.

Loyd Star will host Taylorsville Tuesday, before heading on the road on Thursday for game two and possibly game three.

Bogue Chitto vs. St. Patrick

Despite being seeded lower than Puckett, the Lady Bobcats made quick work of them as they advanced to the second round of the playoffs without allowing a run to Puckett.

St. Patrick dominated their district, and will pose a tough task to the Bobcats throughout the series.

Bogue Chitto will host St. Patrick Tuesday, before traveling to the coast on Thursday for game two and possibly game three.
