The Co-Lin Lady Wolves grabbed two MACJC Championships this past weekend in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The wins qualify the women’s No. 1 team, Gyselle Daza and Carmen Manicea, for the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Waco, Texas from May 6-May 11.

“The women’s team missed qualifying for nationals as a team by one point but showed dramatic improvement from last year’s team,” said Lady Wolves’ head coach Brenda Smith. “Daza and Katy Clark had good showings and were finalist at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Katy and her sister Kara Clark dominated No. 2 doubles for their first MACJC State title…with five players returning, the women’s team be strong again next year.”

Daza and Manicea picked up a quarterfinal win over East Central’s Kahmann/Terrell, 6-1, 6-0, and advanced to the finals with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Buie/Lopareva in the semis. The pair, seeded in the No. 1 spot, defeated Jordan/Jordan in the championship, 6-2, 7-6.

The Clark sisters had a tough start in the No. 2 women’s doubles draw, but regained confidence and rolled past the competition dropping only two games in the semis and finals combined.
