“We came out strong from the beginning,” Lady Yellow Jackets coach Tylor King said. “We focused in and fought really hard. Our defense was there to back Carlee up and our bats came to life. I thought we did really good as a team.”

The Lady Bulldogs struck first in their half of the second as Faith Guy led off with a single into shallow left field and would later score on an error. The Lady Yellow Jackets limited the Lady Bulldogs to just the one run as they produced a ground ball out to short top Abby Richardson.

Lady Yellow Jackets suffer season-ending loss to Lady Bulldogs in game 3

Although their season ended Thursday night with a 6-1 loss in game three of the MHSAA 2A playoffs to the Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Yellow Jackets have nothing to be ashamed of.

As defending Region 7-2A champions, the Lady Yellow Jackets went perfect, going 6-0, in a tough region to pick up their second Region 7-2A championship.

In a tied series, the Lady Yellow Jackets weren’t able to carry the momentum over from game two into game three. The Lady Bulldogs, however, found momentum early and never lost it, as they scored a total of six runs in the course of three innings.

“Enterprise-Clark are a really good team and you can’t take anything away from them,” Lady Yellow Jackets coach Tylor King said. “They’re going to battle and push you and ended up hitting the ball. We had some calls not go our way in the game. We just came up a little short in the game.”

“I thought we had a really good season,” he said. “We had four really good seniors. They did everything we asked of them. We’re proud of them. It’s been a blessing for me to coach these girls this year and they have taught me so much.”

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Bulldogs would strike first, scoring two runs. With two outs, Lady Bulldogs Kaitlyn Stroud stepped up to the plate and singled into left field. Sydney Goodman brought home Stroud on an RBI triple, and later would cross home plate on a pitch that got past Lady Yellow Jackets catcher. The Lady Yellow Jackets limited the Lady Bulldogs to the two runs as Lady Yellow Jackets pitcher Carlee Nations caught a pop-up.

The Lady Yellow Jackets scored their only run in their half of the second. Leading off the inning, Jana Nations took matters into her hands, hitting a single, and making her way to third base as the Lady Bulldogs acted like they were confused on what to do with the ball. With two outs, Nations would score on a pitch that passed up the Lady Bulldogs catcher. The Lady Bulldogs held onto the lead, getting a pop-up at first base.

The Lady Bulldogs continued their momentum in the top half of the third, as Maycee Knight hammered a one-out home run over the centerfield wall. Hanna Herrington, working the count, drew a walk, setting up Faith Guy for a two-out RBI single.

The Lady Yellow Jackets tried to close up the gap in the bottom half of the third, as Caley Cangemi drew a one-out walk. Carly Polk followed with a line-drive single that made its way past short stop. The Lady Bulldogs stranded the runners getting the next two outs.

The Lady Bulldogs continued the separation in their half of the fourth, bringing in two more runs.  Working the count, Talena Satcher drew a two-out walk. Haley Stockman followed with a single into shallow center field. They scored off of an RBI single into shallow center and finished the scoring as they were able to cross home plate before the tag out was applied in a rundown between first and second base.

The Lady Bulldogs went on to win the game by a final score of 6-1, ending the Lady Yellow Jackets season.

The Lady Yellow Jackets finished with a 13-9 overall record and a perfect 6-0 in Region 7-2A.
