Balloon release Friday for Lawrence Co. teen
The family of a young woman killed earlier this week will pay tribute to her Friday at Lawrence County High School.
A balloon release is planned at 4 p.m. on the football field for Dominique Barnes, who died in a one-car accident Monday night after leaving work at her job as a cashier at Ramey’s Marketplace in Monticello.
Barnes, 17, of Silver Creek, was driving east on Hwy. 184 when she ran off the shoulder of the road and over corrected. She then ran off the other shoulder of the road and struck a tree, according to a report from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Barnes would have started her senior year in August.
Teacher Lisa Evans said Barnes was always smiling.
“You couldn’t help but like her and if you knew her, you couldn’t help but love her,” she said.
