McComb police officers responded to Waffle House, 1705 Delware Ave., around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Det. Shannon Sullivan of the McComb Police Department. Diner employees heard several gunshots and then saw a person enter the front doors with apparent gunshot wounds, he said.

Oscar Merrill, 24, of Forest, was transported to Southwest Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Merrill told officers that he and a male friend were traveling from New Orleans to the Jackson area and had gotten into an argument when they pulled into the Waffle House parking lot. During the argument the friend pulled a small caliber handgun and shot Merrill several times in the torso area. As Merrill ran towards the front doors of the Waffle House the suspect drove away in Merrill’s White 2015 Dodge Charger with a Mississippi NASCAR license plate.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call MPD at 601-684-3214.
