Primetime 23 is a list of the top players to watch ahead of the 2018 football season.

Sevante Quinn was the quarterback at Brookhaven High School in 2015 as a true freshman.

Three years later, he’s back to be the signal caller for the Panthers in 2018 as a senior after leading them to 11 straight wins last year and a second-round playoff appearance.

Quinn said the experience he’s gained over his first few years as the signal-caller for the Panthers will be big this season.

“It’s great to have that experience, especially at the quarterback position,” Quinn said. “It plays a big factor in our success. If you don’t have experience as a quarterback, it’s hard.  If you don’t have that experience, you sometimes won’t know where people will be. To have that experience will be a big factor for us this season.”

The senior quarterback played some of his best football at the end of the season last year, rushing for more than 150 yards in the two playoff games for the Panthers.

On the season, Quinn went 88-179 through the air for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns. He rushed for 676 yards on 116 carries in 2017, good for 5.8 yards per carry.

The Panthers return a myriad of skill players for the 2018 season, and Quinn is excited about the existing chemistry that exists between them.

“It’s huge that we have a lot of guys returning at the skill positions,” Quinn said. “With us losing some players on the offensive line, it’s going to make us skill players take up some of the slack. We have to be able to make plays and trust our offensive line.”

Brookhaven will ask Quinn to do some things differently this season to help the offensive line come along and gel as the season goes along.

“We have some talented offensive linemen,” Quinn said. “We’re making it easy for them and letting them come along throughout the year.”

Quinn said the Panthers have been through the ups and downs as a team, but they know they can handle whatever comes their way.

“We do really well handling adversity,” Quinn said. “I think that we’re never surprised by adversity. We’ve faced so much of it throughout the years that we’re not surprised by it when it comes. We’ve handled it really well, and I think that we’ll handle it well when it comes for us this season.”
