Primetime 23 is a list of the top players to watch ahead of the 2018 football season.

Damarcus Godbolt has done it all for Bogue Chitto throughout his first three years in the Bobcats program.

They’ll call on him to do even more during his senior year, as Godbolt will be the focal point of Bogue Chitto’s rushing attack this season.

Godbolt has played running back, fullback, defensive end and linebacker throughout his playing career, and his versatility is something Bobcats head coach Gareth Sartin enjoys.

“He’s really done everything for us over his career,” Sartin said. “We’re going to ask him to step into that role, and he’ll do it well.”

Godbolt rushed for 209 yards last season and acquired 34 tackles on the year. While he noted the Bobcats will dearly miss former running back La’fredrick Dillon, who’s missing his senior year after an ATV accident, he’s excited to carry the football.

“It’s always fun to get the football,” Godbolt said. “You just have to step up and do whatever the coaches need you to do to win football games.”

With this being his final year at Bogue Chitto, Godbolt noted he’s going to be required to take on a bigger leadership role than he already has.

“I always felt like that I’ve had a leadership role on this team, but I’ll definitely have one as a senior,” Godbolt said. “It’s one last year here, so I’ll definitely be a leader on the team.”

Sartin said Godbolt is team-oriented and he always wants the best out of his teammates.

“He’s such a team first guy,” Sartin said. “He’s very encouraging. He’s very happy when others succeed. He’s an absolute joy to coach and to be around, and we’re expecting big things out of him this year.”

Godbolt and the Bobcats have spent the summer making sure they’re ready to go when the season rolls around in less than a month.

“We’ve had a really good summer in the weight room,” Godbolt said. “We had to get stronger, and we’ve done that. I think that we’ve really put the work in this summer.”

Sartin echoed those sentiments and said Godbolt and others’ leadership is the reason behind the high attendance.

“Our low days for workouts this summer has been around 30 or so,” Sartin said. “That’s because of having great leadership on your team, and wanting to come out and get better.”
