Taking their home field for the first time this season, Enterprise fell hard Friday night to Richton by a final score of 51-6.

Throughout the week’s practice Enterprise coach Brooks Burns preached to his team to defeat the Yellow Jackets’ worst enemy — themselves. Although Enterprise had sparks on  the offensive, being unable to sustain drives and turning the ball over proved to be the Yellow Jackets’ achilles heel.

“I would like to thank the fans for coming out and for being supportive,” Burns said. “I was proud of the kid’s efforts but we got to stop doing things that beat ourselves. We were making way too many unnecessary mistakes that we can’t overcome. When we stop doing those things, we’ll become a better football team.”

The Richton Rebels found the end zone early in the game as they forced a fumble on the opening kickoff and recovered. Richton senior Dd Griffin would get the Rebels on the board first.

Enterprise’s official first offensive possession proved to be better than the opening kickoff, as they were able to move the ball with their running game. However, Enterprise saw their offensive drive stall as they ended up punting the ball away.

The Rebels scored their second touchdown as senior Za’darious Mitchell returned the punt all the way to the end zone.

The Yellow Jackets started their next possession on their own 11-yard line. Following an offsides penalty, Enterprise was way behind the sticks but managed to move the ball mixing passing with running. Once again, Enterprise saw their offensive drive faltered.

Richton was looking to add onto their lead as they were on their own 12-yard line, but Enterprise’s defense stood tall and forced the Rebels to punt the ball away.

The Rebels wouldn’t be denied their third touchdown of the first half, however, as they forced a fumble following the punt and Mitchell ran the ball into the end zone.

The Rebels led 19-0 after one full quarter of play.

Leading 37-0 after halftime the Rebel’s’ offensive scoring continued throughout the rest of the game as they kept building onto their lead.

Enterprise’s best non-touchdown offensive drive came in the third quarter as they found success with running the ball.

With just over a minute left in the game, Enterprise marched down the field as sophomore Edrick Mccray connected with senior Andrew Greer deep down the field, setting up the Yellow Jackets on the one-yard line.

Enterprise finally made it onto the scoreboard as McCray took the ball into the end zone.

As the final horn sounded, Richton had won the game 51-6.

Enterprise will head to Meridian as they take on Clarksdale Friday, in Touchdowns Against Cancer. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
